For eighteen-year-old Becca Torrence, the chance to finish high school in a new town, where no one knows her or the secrets of that night, should be a dream come true. But when the first day of school rolls around, something is wrong. Instead of being greeted with warm smiles and reassuring hellos, Becca finds herself on the receiving end of icy stares and cruel whispers. Putting it down to her status as an outsider, she holds her head high, because they can’t know. They can’t. Can they? Determined to make her new life in Credence work, Becca is willing to do whatever it takes to fit in. Even if it means losing herself in the process. A white lie can save you … Too many lies will break you.

Captain's Log :: Review

I was so excited for this book. I loved the story. The tension. The suspense. The teenage angst! Ugh! All of my favorite things about YA/NA.

Becca and Evan were lusty glances and far-off flirting. I liked it. It seems something a couple of teens would put themselves through. Plus with her being the 'outcast' at school because she's new and her struggle to find where she fits in, it just built a delicious sense of "more, please".

I loved Becca's inner thoughts. Everyone struggles at as a teen, especially a teen in a new school in her senior year. Image, friendships, all of that were on display in her head.

Sadly, that's where what I liked about this book stopped. This book provided zero answers to any of it's posed questions. I wanted to know so much but it leaves you hanging, hoping you'll come back to read the next one. I was finished reading it and seriously thought "WTF was THAT!?"

Issues about why her family moved, the mysteriousness behind Evan, the whispers about her at school, why her new circle of friends does what they do ... all of it pondered, none of it answered. I am not even sure I want to devote any more time to this story. Am I curious? Yes. Am I so curious that I feel the need to buy the next story? *shrug* Meh.

I do think that Cotton has a lot of potential in this book and I wish she would have at least answered ONE of the bigger questions before the book was over. Or even hinted at an answer. I just feel shorted with this one.

Based on writing and the story, I'm giving this one a strong 3.75 stars. Yes, that's weird, but so am I. ;)
