About BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
My name is Roman Cavenaugh and I’m kind of an asshole.
Running a company isn't easy, especially when everyone expects you to fail, so being a jerk? It comes with the territory.
I don't have time to mess around, and I sure as hell didn’t see her coming.
Cara Hamilton—she was supposed to be off limits…a temporary employee brought in during my assistant’s maternity leave.
But, in the blink of an eye, she became so much more.
An obsession I couldn’t shake.
So yeah, I may be an asshole, but now, I finally had a purpose, and soon, she would be mine.
All’s fair in love and war…

My father was right.
I was the dumbest man on the planet.
Making the hasty decision to rush out to California with Cara in tow had to be one of the most dim-witted ideas I’d ever concocted.
And that was saying something. I’d made some epic mistakes in my past.
But this one? It was a doozy.
Sitting on a plane with the woman who was quickly becoming something bordering on an obsession as her body grazed mine and her scent permeated the air around me, I thought I might surely go insane. By the end of our flight, I was sure I’d gone mad from the sheer will it had taken to keep my hands to myself.
I could have made this trip by myself. Hell, I could have done this trip in a thirty-minute phone call to my brother. But hearing Cara speak about my sister-in-law, smiling as she’d said she hoped she’d get the chance to meet Lailah one day, had been all I could think of for the rest of that day.
Before I knew it, I had called her back in my office as my fingers danced across the keyboard, booking our first-class seats to LAX.
I hadn’t even confirmed the dates with my brother.
By the time I’d gotten around to calling him that night with the news, the response I had gotten was expected.
“You’re coming here? With her?”
The emphasis on the word her was not lost on me.
“Yes,” I replied. “She’s my assistant. That’s what assistants do. They assist.”
“And when was the last time any of your previous assistants traveled with you for business?”
I cleared my throat, buying time. “Bethany had a husband, kids.”
She did have more than one kid, right?
I honestly had no idea.
“And the one before that? What was her name?”
“I don’t know. Shut the hell up.”
